    Description

Listed for sale is a circa 1956 vintage Armoire designed by Henry P Glass and produced by the Fleetwood Furniture Company. This example is from Glass' steel tube series, which included numerous rolling carts, bookcases, chests, and other furniture typologies. Henry P. Glass was a celebrated architect and industrial designed throughout the 20th century. After escaping Germany and concentration camps during WWII, Glass began a new career in the United States, working under Gilbert Rohde and Russell Wright before beginning his own studio practice. In addition to designing though his firm, Glass also taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in industrial design for decades. Nowadays, furniture works by Glass are increasingly rare and phenomenal works of design highlighting industrial design developments during the mid 20th century.
As it relates to this armoire in particular, it is the largest steel tube piece we've seen. It has a gorgeous wood casing with light blue painted and wood interior. Condition overall is very good with some wear as to be expected for a decades-old piece such as this. The feet are intact and structure is sound.
The armoire measures 73.5 inches tall by 47.5 inches wide and 23 inches deep.
